I am a freak for Jaws. No matter how many times I have seen it, I am all over wtching it again. I mean, how can you NOT love Richard Dryfuss? and don’t even get me started on Quint. I have never seen a better drunk on film. I had to be about 9 when I saw it–in the movie theatre. I was terrified. Peed my bed that night. really.
Ithe film made me a fan of Roy Scheider–I have since seen all his films. but none of his flicks can comapre to his famous line: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
omg. has there every been a more bad-ass famous line in film history?
and might I mention….the credit closing in House is from a line in Jaws.
Seriously. see folks, it always, always comes back to House.

That is definitely awesome lol. I watched Jaws in my film class for Senior year of high school. It was the first movie we watched, and the way my teacher taught it was unbelievable. I do love that movie in every which way.

To start off, I’ll respond to Rhys and Michele’s posts. I never watched Jaws in high school, but I have watched some movies that most people would absolutely not watch in class in my high school years. My senior year I took a course entitled ‘History Through Film’ where we watched movies like ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Blackhawk Down’, ‘The Killing Fields’, ‘Blow’ and a whole slew of violent, drug related and otherwise graphic movies. My teachers were pretty open to the idea of watching a movie based on the content and the context in which it related to the class rather than censoring what we watched to appease parents. The poster on my ‘History Through Film’ teacher’s door said ‘Censorship Causes Blindness’ in huge letters which was certainly the way he ran his class. As far as ‘Corn-dog Movies’ go, I can think of a handful of movies that my friends watched countless times if there was nothing on TV or we were just too lazy to decided on anything else. Friday, Next Friday, and Friday After Next were top of the list when it came to movies I have watched multiple times. As a matter of fact, anything with Ice Cube had a pretty good chance of being watched if we were bored. My all time favorite movie, however, is ‘The Big Lebowski’, hands down. I have the poster on my wall here at school, and I just cannot watch it too many times. I first saw it when I was probably in fifth grade, far too young for one of the more vulgar movies out there. There was just something about the characters that Jeff Bridges and John Goodman played that just made them so believable. I own at least four copies of the DVD, as well as having downloaded it from iTunes as well.

I love that movie. It’s too bad they had to ruin it with the third one. I feel like a lot of movies today are coming out with shitty sequels, like just the other day I saw previews for the new Waiting sequel called “Still Waiting”. Why go and ruin a good movie with countless sequels? It just makes no sense. Wow that second clip I loved, I had no idea that that animation came from Jaws. I see that every time I watch family guy and I never made the connection that it was based off of Jaws. Didn’t this movie scare people into not swimming for weeks? It’s crazy how a simple movie can have that huge an impact on someones everyday life. This movie sort of reminded me of that movie The Orphan. People thought that because of this movie the rates of adoptions were going to decline because they may be killers or problem children. It just blows my mind how media has that big an impact on our lives that we can become persuaded to stop swimming for weeks, or possibly stop adopting children. All that aside I think Jaws is a pretty good cornball movie.
